Queries

I am currently sending queries out to agents for the 1st book in my vampire thriller series, Book Group. If anyone wants to read a vampire novel like no other, drop me a line.

Text for a typical query letter follows:

“An insane killer disguises himself as a vampire to terrorize his victims. Then, the real vampire arrives.

“BOOK GROUP is a suspense/thriller, word count 119K. My target audience is educated adult readers who long for something other than the standard tropes. It begins as a murder mystery, but once Lynda is saved by FBI detective Danger Freeman, she discovers that her rescuer is actually the “head vampire” who masterminded the murders.

“Imagine being attacked with PCP gas, hallucinating and profoundly handicapped, under house arrest, no working phone, most of your friends already dead, terrorized by a vampire who masquerades as a policeman.

“Lynda must overcome her skepticism and accept that the supernatural is real, even as she uses her skills as a psychologist to stay alive and outwit the fiend. She is an unreliable narrator; her drug-induced hallucinations sometimes leave the reader guessing what is real, enhancing mystery and suspense.

“Comparable books include Grady Hendrix THE SOUTHERN BOOK CLUB’S GUIDE TO SLAYING; Nicole Arend VAMPS: FRESH BLOOD; Nicole Eigener BEGUILED BY NIGHT; and Jack Townson THE VAMPIRE JACK TOWNSON: FAME HAS ITS PRICE. Elizabeth Kostova’s THE HISTORIAN influenced my world-building.

“The journey of my MC takes her from handicapped and helpless to a genuine hero with an open mind. She gains “vampire powers” at night by abusing drugs. This was inspired by my recovery from a serious stroke in 2018. When I could walk and talk again, I felt like a superhero. Even while trapped in my hospital bed, like Lynda, I could still run and even fly in my dreams.
